Challenge: When will the estimate of ultimate from the ECR method equal the estimate from the BF method?
  • This is a completely open-ended question so try to give a comprehensive answer.
  • The value is in taking the time to think through different scenarios carefully.
  • A comprehensive answer might include both numerical and descriptive explanations for when the ECR and BF methods are likely to be the same.
The first worthy answer wins a BattleActs logo coffee mug! The next 4 worthy submissions win BattleActs stickers!

  • Alice's Comments: Congrats on being the first to submit an answer to this challenge! You have indeed constructed an example where the BF and ECR methods produce the same ultimate for your latest AY. So the conditions you listed in your answer seem to be sufficient. These conditions may not all be necessary however. I tried changing some of the numbers in your triangle to alter the stability of the development pattern and the BF ECR methods still produce the same answer. In other words, there may be less restrictive conditions where BF still equals ECR. In any case, nice work! Since you've already won a coffee mug for exemplary contributions in the past, we can still send you a sticker. :-)
