Introduction

There are 2 main topics in Exam 5: Reserving and Pricing. You can start with either topic but you must do the chapters in order because later chapters depend on material from earlier chapters.

  • The Ranking Table - Ordered by Chapter shows reserving articles/chapters on the left side and pricing articles/chapters on the right side. This table also shows the relative importance of each according to how frequently it appears on the exam, and a suggested amount of study time.
  • The Ranking Table - Ordered by Rank shows where each individual topic ranks relative all topics. This intended to help you decide where to focus your time. You must learn the frequently asked topics very well.

A good place to begin is with the wiki article for Friedland01.Overview. This is the first chapter on reserving from the Friedland text.

Ranking Table - Ordered by Rank

This is a rank-order listing of all readings on the Exam 5 syllabus. You can see that the top 20 chapters/reading account for 80% of the points on a typical exam. For the most part you still have to cover the chapters in numerical order but this table gives you a sense for how much time and effort you should devote to individual topics. If you use this information wisely you can save time while still maximizing your chances of passing the exam.

  • Friedland chapters are shown with a light blue background.
  • Werner chapters are shown with a white backgroud.
  • Other pricing and reserving readings are shown with a grey background.
